Woodworking Kits

The twins went at their first woodworking kits today. The instructions weren't the best in the world, but everyone seemed to have fun anyway.

Another 6" of Snow

The snow started late yesterday afternoon, and made the trip last night to the airport to pick up Matt a little longer than usual. This morning we woke up to 6" or so. We've never been this far behind shoveling the driveway, but it turned out to be a ton of fun for everyone, including the neighbor.

AJ had to try this out after seeing a Facebook video.
Didn't work out too well.

Fina made herself a chair. Didn't last long.

We helped shovel the neighbor's driveway, too. Sorta.

Fina got him a few times.

The courtyard always keeps its snow the longest.

Into the Woods

I took production photos for DCC's Into the Woods, running this weekend only. Tickets. Reminded me so much of Fina's last show in California, Into the Woods Jr, July of 2017. Here's a side-by-side comparison. More photos of Fina in the 2017 production are here.

Pikes Peak or Bust

It's Pioneer Day at DCC. Kinda gives ya a hankering fer the Colorado gold rush back in the day. An 1850s' day ya understand.

Careful, dude. It's 9 degrees out there.

Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center

Weather had already delayed Sam's flight back to school from Friday to Monday. And weather was threatening again to make getting him to the airport by 4am a little difficult. And Matt had a flight out Monday as well, albeit a bit later in the morning. In discussing options we realized that the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center had just opened and was offering discounts for locals. So what the heck. Matt, Sam, Nana, and Papa headed up there about noon on Sunday and spent the afternoon exploring. We had dinner at the Old Hickory Steakhouse - wow! Pretty impressive place. Also a bit pricey. All the photos are here.

Three birds of prey greeted us upon entering the lobby.

The caboose was put in place first and the lobby was built around it.

Denver Museum of Nature & Science

We visited the Denver Museum of Nature & Science today while Nana attended an all-day quilting event. Seemed like a good option for a threatening-weather day and Sam's last full day here this trip. Almost got through all the museum, probably still 1-2 hours to go, mostly in the science areas. All the photos are here. Took us quite a bit longer than normal to get home. We were re-routed to highway 83 (must have been something bad on I-25) and then heavier snow the closer we got to home.

The bigs thought this virtual reality ride was pretty cool.

Quite a discussion ensued about what would happen if elephants had such tusks today.

Matt determined the mummy was just a little taller than Lexi.

The water "whirl wind" was very exciting.

There was practically no snow on anything when we arrived.

Fina's trying desperately to ignore it all.

They had some remarkable rhodochrosite specimens.

Quartz, too.
