Wrapping up Summer

The last part of August flew by, as did summer. What, back to school already!

Setting up Shop at UCCS

Nana, Papa, and Aunt Vickie got home from Wyoming just in time (well, actually, a little late) to help Fina move into her dorm at UCCS.

Blasting Home through Timnath, CO

It was an easy drive from Centennial, WY to home. We made one stop for coffee at the Public Market Coffeehouse in Timnath, CO (just south or Fort Collins). The building used to be a grain elevator and they've done a nice job of keeping some of the old character while putting in a new shop. But the really interesting thing turned out to be the name of the town: Timnath. We asked what that meant and were told it was an obscure Biblical reference. We were also pointed to two binders on a display shelf with all the info about the town and its name. The topic ended up being a Bonus on Jamie's Torah website, here. The day's photos start here.

Medicine Bow / Snowy Range and Centennial, WY

After buttoning up the Sisco rental house at Teton Village, we left the Grand Teton area bound for home. We finished today's leg in time to play around Medicine Bow / Snowy Mountains for a little while before settling into the Old Corral in Centennial, WY for the overnight. Dinner at the Bear Bottom Bar and Grill was surprisingly delightful. The day's photos start here.

Horseback, Float Trip, and Calicos

This was our last full day in the area with all the Siscos, and we made it count! First, we did a horseback trail ride out of Teton Village with Teton Village Trail Rides. Then we went up north a little way to hook up with Solitude Float Trips for a 2-hour cruise down the Snake River. We closed the day with a great dinner at Calico. The day's photos start here.

Last Day at Cloudveil

Our intention was to ride the boat across Jenny Lake and maybe do a hike up to Hidden Falls. However, upon arriving late morning, the parking lot was jammed with lines of cars snaking through looking for empty spaces, and the main highway alongside was solid in both directions for at least a quarter mile as well. So we bailed. Back to the Cloudveil for a delightful afternoon of wandering around Jackson and nibbling our way through dinner on the rooftop of the hotel. It was great! For the future... Lexi, our rooftop bartender, and friend of the new owners of the boat service at Jenny Lake, said to do the Geology Cruise next time. OK! The day's photos start here.

Another cairn at the hotel. It's a thing there!

Teton Village Ski Summit

We visited the summit of the ski slopes at Teton Village today, by tram. This trip included a hike further up the mountain (for some) that included a bear spotting - about 10 feet away! It also included lunch at the Mangy Moose. That evening we all enjoyed a uniquely gourmet meal at The Kitchen in Jackson (just a couple blocks from the Cloudveil). The day's photos start here.

Taggart Lake

Today we did the Taggart Lake Trail in the Tetons. And on the way home we decided to check out why people were stopping at this one location. Moose! We batted the cycle: bear, elk, bison, and moose. Not necessarily in that order. The day's photos start here.

Yellowstone

We did "the loop" at Yellowstone. From Old Faithful and other geysers to the lodges to the falls to bison! The day's photos start here.
