Enjoy Cupcakes: That was part of it...

Inspired by Tracy and Matt's recent visit to Enjoy Cupcakes in Los Olivos, Lynn got the hankering... So she, Papa Bill, Serafina, Matteo, and Jamie headed south for a Sunday drive. And we took the backroad, that is, Foxen Canyon Road. We pointed out stuff we found interesting, stopped where we wanted to, and eventually took a little tour of Los Olivos. The photos include Rancho Sisquoc Winery and gravel art, the Chapel of San Ramon and cemetery (and a little math subtraction), Enjoy Cupcakes (fantastic!), and Los Olivos and its fountains, buildings, parks, boci ball, missing railroad bridges, and more...

A little getaway for Jamie and Lynn

Lynn and I thoroughly enjoyed our little getaway to points south this Monday and Tuesday. After all these years on the central coast, we finally visited Nojoqui Falls (about 1.5 miles east of Highway 101 south of Buellton). If you visit the JF2 link below, you'll see photos from our trip to the falls along with: Cold Spring Tavern and the Cold Spring Canyon Arch Bridge, Lake Cachuma vista points, the Hotel Corque in Solvang, the Picasso/Braque Cubist exhibit at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, some State Street sights, and Gainey Winery.

Elephant Seals and Brown Butter Cookies

It was a good day for a drive up the coast. The kids had plenty of electronic distractions enroute, and with Frank's Hot Dogs as an early fueling stop, we were loaded for elephant seals.

There were 16 newborn pups on the beach today (we were told). I don't think AJ ever knew there were any seals on the beach, He spent all of his time zooming up and down the deck walkway, in and out of the very many other people there also enjoying the day and graciously yielding the right-of-way to AJ.

The other "must" stop on our journey was Brown Butter Cookies in Cayucos. The Lemon Sugar were our favorites (at least for today).

They think we're just fishin'...

Catching fish has very little to do with fishing. Oh, for sure, there is considerable chatter about what to do when the whale is reeled in. But, for the most part, it's all about exploring, chatting about a million other things, all very important, and when is snack time.

Oso Flaco Lake and Dunes

Oso Flaco Lake and Dunes is another great place for family hiking, especially when additional family from out of town arrives.

Hiking the Central Coast

There's no lack of great outdoor activity in our neck of the woods along California's central coast. Today we visited Edna Valley, the Los Osos Oaks Reserve, and Montana de Oro. It doesn't hurt to be prepared with an all-terrain Bug-a-Boo stroller that can be put in its "rickshaw" configuration for rough and over-grown trails.
